Rise of the coyote: The new top dog

A Nature article today discusses the Rise of the coyote: The new top dog. It’s a really interesting story about how coyotes have been able to alter their habitat and food preferences over a short period of time to take advantage of changing situations. It also brings up a good point, which people often forget about: evolution continues to occur on natural populations today! A lot of people tend to forget that nothing is static, and that everything is constantly changing. The coyote is a good example of rapid evolution occurring currently, but it’s good to remember that humans continue to evolve as well. The dynamic nature of life is one of the things that makes biology so fun to study!
